I’m so happy to announce that I made Toronto Life‘s annual list of Toronto’s Best Dressed People! They’ve chosen me and 16 other Torontonians to feature in the eighth edition of their yearly style round up. Their Best Dressed Class of 2018 includes a chef, a drag queen, a painter, and other stylish and talented professionals.
The Ray Of Sunshine
Each of the 14 articles starts with a descriptive headline of the featured person or group. “The Grand Dame” opens up an article on a well-lived and well-traveled jewelry designer and former president of YSL Rive Gauche Canada. “The Sparkling Balladeer” begins an article on a formerly reclusive pianist.
And then there’s me. “The Ray of Sunshine”. Seeing that actually makes me tear up a bit. To think that I, someone who has struggled with a lot of personal storms in my life, might be seen as a ray of sunshine to someone else, is so heartwarming to me. In my interview I mentioned my belief in using fashion as a way to turn up the vibrancy in your mood and life and I love the fact that they chose to lead with that.
Throughout the article they touch on my work as a blogger, model, and designer and are kind enough to grant me the title of “digital content impresario”. We also chatted about my love of DIY fashion and beauty, from sewing my own clothes to mixing up my own deep conditioners.
Location and Outfit Details
Everyone featured got to style themselves, do their own hair and makeup, and select a place that they’d like to be photographed in. I chose Casa Loma, a Gothic Revival- style sprawling mansion built in the early 1910’s. I chose it because, well – how often do you get the chance to shoot in a castle? The photographer Erin Leydon and I had full reign of the estate before it opened to the public.
Throughout my four pages I wore two different looks. In the first two pages I wear an orange jumper by Sororum paired with Melody Ehsani hoops. In the second two pages I wear a crop top and skirt set also designed and sewn by me for Sororum, Nike Air Force Ones, and a turtleneck and earrings by Missguided.
The Toronto Life Stylebook is on stands now. This is now the second Best Dressed List I’ve been featured in this year (with the first being The Globe and Mail in March). I just feel happy, blessed, and excited for what’s next.
