All puns aside, I found my heart in bomber jacket-form. I knew instantly I had to give it the Love Mirian treatment. This little baby here is butter smooth to the touch, has a super cool design, and its reversible style makes it twice as nice.
My Dream Jacket
When I first came across the Two-in-One Reversible Sateen Jacket by Topshop I knew it was love at first sight. I don’t normally go too crazy for Topshop pieces but when I saw this bomber jacket it was just my style. A bit sporty, chic, tomboy-ish, and can be worn so many different ways thanks to its reversible nature.
For this series I wanted a great outdoor location with bold colors and line work that would compliment the coolness of the look. My partner and I found the exterior of this beautiful arts and cultural space downtown and it instantly felt perfect.
This side of the jacket is black sateen with a fearsome tiger atop crashing waves embroidered on the back. A mountain looms in the distance all framed by the word “Japan” hanging above the scene in cursive. On the front a smaller tiger and talon-baring bird clutching flowers adorn each side.
The Asian influence reminded me of that time in the late 1990’s/early 2000’s when Hollywood, the fashion world, and pop culture expressed its fascination with Asian culture by making hair chopsticks, takeout-box purses and jacquard satin everything the “it” things to have. Don’t believe me or tried your hardest to forget? Please direct your attention to Exhibit A.
I know we’re in the midst of a 90’s revival so seeing this theme pop up again makes perfect sense. What I love is the updated approach that pays homage to the culture without feeling tacky or kitschy. Paired with some Topshop jeans, a Forever 21 sports bra, and silver brogues from Zara, this look was fun to wear and shoot.
I hope you enjoy it. I’ll see you back soon for Part 2!
